Welcome to Splashy Mix! It's February and this month's mood board is eye-popping!
I started with a 45 vinyl record for my project and covered it in white gesso. I then put down pieces of a cut-up doily around about 3/4s of it, leaving space for my large owl. I went over everything with more gesso.
I found these napkins with a large owl on it - the colors are perfect for this month! I adhered one owl to the record and then made a smaller copy that I cut out and glued onto a thin piece of cardboard. I added lacquer highlights and a couple of jewels to the eyes of the larger owl.
On the other side, I added leaves and flowers from various brands. I went around the whole thing and inner circle with some Finnabair wax. You can see the doily and napkin texture and layering of elements.
I love altering vinyl records! But a word of caution: the heat gun will warp it if you aren't careful and don't want it. This one I didn't want any warping. But I've done some that I've twisted and pulled for some really neat affects. I hope you'll give it a try!
I hope you'll join us for our current challenge - can't wait to see your interpretation of the mood board!
Hope my project inspired you, if so, come and play along with us at https://www.facebook.com/groups/splashymixchallenges/

Wow! this is amazing and I would never have guessed the owl was a napkin. There is so much texture going on - love it! x
